<hays>
yeah perhaps. im stumbling around here. not too experienced with firmware and how to write drivers
<hays>
but it looks like this firmware listens to this pin for entropy

also I wanted (but wasn't sure if this is right place) to express condolences as alpine linux u-boot maintainer and in my personal name. RIP Wolfgang, you did a lot for free and open software

<hays>
Yeah the rwtm driver seems to be accessing a register for entropy
<cambrian_invader>
no, it is doing RPC
<cambrian_invader>
to the rwtm firmware
<cambrian_invader>
which accesses the register itself
<hays>
Yes
<cambrian_invader>
and then the kernel will do whitening/whatever
<hays>
I’ve found the code where the firmware initializes this interface
<hays>
Don’t quite understand it but I found it. I am not clear on how the kernel at large finds it either
<cambrian_invader>
presumably it is loaded during boot
<hays>
Right but what connects it to the rest of the kernel vs just being a special hidden RPC call to the firmware
<cambrian_invader>
turris_mox_rwtm_probe registers it with devm_hwrng_register
<hays>
Line 533
matthias_bgg has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds]
<hays>
Another question… if I use an initramfs, is the kernel already loaded at that point or would there be a way to reload it? I’m thinking about this as a way to provide a kaslr seed instead of trying to get it into uboot
<cambrian_invader>
you can always kexec
<cambrian_invader>
but honestly the firmware interface doesn't look that bad IMO
