talking of rk3399, I'm trying to boot linux on it from u-boot, and the linux boot stalls at some point. It doesn't seem to be be related to the loading of any specific driver. Any ideas what might cause it?

Not off hand but logs would be helpful, and make sure the kernel is doing earlyprintk if it's failing super early
<any1>
It's failing late. I enabled initcall_debug and disabled smt.
<any1>
Could it be this trust stuff interfering? or maybe DDR timing is off?

I tried 5.18.4 first
<any1>
err, 5.18.5. Anyhow, armbian boots with this u-boot, so it's just something to do with my kernel that I build using buildroot
<any1>
I guess I'll just steal their config. :)

I'd try armbian dtb and buildroot config

is it possible to bundle the kernel image and initramfs with the u-boot executable somehow so that i have only a single file to deliver?
<vagrantc>
fit images, i think

does anyone have any recommendations for hardware debuggers (jtag) which support cortex-a53/72 cores?
<hushmoney>
fit image can bundle the u-boot executable as well? i started down that path because at first i thought that's what i wanted, but then i read something that made me think i had misunderstood

van: in terms of hardware, almost anything will work; I use J-Links but it's not necessary and I mostly don't use their software
<cambrian_invader>
if you have a specific chip in mind just make sure it's supported by whatever you buy
