Discussing my 3yo ticket about installing “stable-2“. But now we have rust-version, maybe it’s no longer required?
<thejpster[m]>
Like, should we commit the MSRV to the repo (CI matrix, Readme, cargo.toml rust-version) instead of trying to follow behind stable automatically?

the wg crates have essentially all settled on "each crate has a particular msrv which is in the readme and tested in ci (and eventually in cargo.toml), and it can be bumped to at most the current stable whenever necessary"
<adamgreig[m]>
so yea, the "stable-2" concept I think would more apply to the latter part - the crate'd still have a specific msrv, but you'd say a pr can only bump it to at most stable-2

So there's no need to get rustup to install "stable-2" because the human can do the maths manually, try it out, then commit the new version to the rust-version entry.
