<siomn>
Hello everyone! Is there any way to output the invocation name (argv[0])? Not the same as the path to the script ($0/__FILE__) ... which is what Google seems to be giving me.
<siomn>
For example the real argv[0] (from C) might be "asdf" while the path to the script is /home/simon/bin/asdf.
<siomn>
To prevent an XY problem: I'm trying to go with the UNIX convention for error messages/help instead of hardcoding the name of my script

anyone here have "Polished Ruby Programming" by Jeremy Evans? It's supposed to be up-to-date for Ruby 3 and I'm wondering if it's a good book to buy to replace the Pickaxe (which I honestly have no reason of taking out of the shelve anymore in times of rubyapi.org etc.)

rapha: I received an early copy from the publisher. I'm not sure it's a Pickaxe replacement... but it has a lot of great bits in it that Jeremy has picked up over the years.
<adam12>
I'm not sure how much my early copy differs from the printed version.
<adam12>
I feel like Pickaxe was more reference, where Polished Ruby Programming is more technique and strategy (ie. first arg default value, etc).
<adam12>
I'm not a fan of Packt books in general tho.

bundler should have a flag to generate rdoc for installed gems.

<adam12>
I guess `gem rdoc --all` kind of fills that purpose. But it would be nice to be able to trigger it from bundler. Hmm.

adam12: i don't know what "Packt" books are, but the thing about Technique & Strategy vs. Reference is what I think I was getting at re. sites like rubyapi.org and also re. the way I progressed as a programmer. The former is certainly more needed now.
<rapha>
I think I'll get that book then. I love Sequel and I've heard good things about his web framework, so why not give a book of his a try.
<rapha>
What functions do you fulfil in the the community btw that the publisher sends you a copy? Are you, like, a famous blogger or something?
<adam12>
rapha: Packt is the publisher.
<adam12>
rapha: Not a famous blogger. When jeremy was still on IRC, we were in the same IRC rooms. And I've been contributor to number of his projects. So he asked privately if I'd review his book before it launched.
<rapha>
ah ok
<rapha>
sad that he's not on irc anymore ... but i guess maybe the support requests become too many when you wrote something like Sequel
<rapha>
since i never heard of Packt I'll just get the book and form my own opinion
