You’ll see that DrRacket consumes an enormous 648MB of memory while you haven’t even done anything in it yet! Visual studio consumes only 240MB (which is still a lot, to be clear, but still significantly less than the pathetic DrRacket).
<tix23>
Why is this so???
<tix23>
Is this the best argument that the whole Racket thing is failed project, maybe?
<tix23>
(Especially, given that the performance was even worse before, but the core team decided to switch to excellent Chez Scheme recently, being unable to produce decent compiler by themselves.
<tix23>
It is especially interesting that the Racket community always says that they are superior, but they are obviously not able to make a more memory efficient editor than, according to them, the poor Visual Studio (which is much more than an editor and has many more functions than DrRacket)!

brenner, samth, asumu? Where are you? I'm ideal candidate for (another one) ban! The only reason is because I tell peole the truth about DrRacket!

tonyg, hello!
<tix23>
racket is shitty language, don't you think?
<tix23>
For example: Racket editor (DrRacket) is incredibly memory hungry. Indeed, try this: 1) Launch DrRacket 2) Launch Microsoft Visual Studio 3) Start Task Manager and look at memory consumption.

Hello, are you familiar with the embarrassing case of Leonardo Facchinetti? He used to be a fan of the racket community, but he quickly lost his illusions. The reason: completely disturbed people running this project!
<mar11>
For more information, watch this video in which Leonardo explains why he ran away with his head no matter what, he even gave up his doctorate because of some people in this community: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wY7FBtr7_c

Very sad and terrible story, but so tipical for Racket community! :(

they can't handle Racket's greatness =)
<samth>
that guy has had a long-standing grudge about racket for reasons that i don't understand. he gets banned from various fora, and reappears occasionally
<samth>
just to be clear, "that guy" is not Leandro, who is in that video
<casaca>
what other uses do you think Zuo will get, in or out, of the Racket community?
<casaca>
something like Guix maybe?

maybe if the racket community writes some c code
<winny>
Thanks for moderating, keeping it nice here :)
<winny>
ironically indeed drracket is a big of a piggy, though I can run it on my thinkpad x31 with 512 MiB of ram... so clearly it doesn't need all the memory as the poster keeps insisting
<nihilazo>
I have far less performance issues with drracket than most other IDEs
<nihilazo>
although that's speaking purely anecdotally
<winny>
Back when I first learned Racket, I had a laptop with a 5400 RPM hdd. DrRacket was one of those applications that took tens upon tens of seconds to launch. I can't recall if it would lag during editing due to slow disk io, but I kind of would believe it. The Thinkpad in question has a SSD so disk io is much faster than what the IDE bus can handle.
<nihilazo>
startup on my laptop is kinda slow but then everything on my laptop is kinda slow
<winny>
if it's windows sorry, that's just ntfs for ya
<nihilazo>
it's linux, but the thing truly sucks
