<mmichelson>
Hi everyone, it's time to start the weekly OVN developers' meeting
<dceara>
Hi!
<mmichelson>
Who would like to give the first update this week?
<mj2>
i have a short
<amusil>
Hi
<mj2>
*short one
<mmichelson>
mj2, sure thing, go ahead
<mj2>
so the multinode test was posted \o/, this sparked alot of discussion on the mailing list which was all really useful
<mj2>
and im working on a v2
<mj2>
but thanks alot for the notes on the test everyone
<mj2>
its all really useful
<mj2>
end
<mmichelson>
THanks mj2
<mmichelson>
Who's next?
<dceara>
I can go I guess.
<mmichelson>
yeah you can
<dceara>
:)
<dceara>
I posted the follow up patches to avoid some of the extra parsing we were doing for NAT/LB IP route advertising. Thanks felixhuettner and mkalcok for reviews! It's now applied (to 25.03 too).
<dceara>
Then I did some more reviews and I also applied felixhuettner's I-P series for learned-routes in northd. As it was all dynamic-routing-specific I also applied it to 25.03.
<dceara>
Also, thanks mj2 for the multinode e2e work! I think it's going in the right direction.
<dceara>
Oh, and the routing-protocol-redirect support is officially not experimental anymore in 25.03 (since approx 20min ago).
<dceara>
That's it on my side, thanks!
<mkalcok>
\o/
<mmichelson>
Lots of good work from everyone so far this week, awesome!
<mmichelson>
Who wants to go next?
<mkalcok>
I can do a quick one
<mj2>
thanks dceara
<mmichelson>
mkalcok, go for it
<mkalcok>
It was mostly reviews for patches where I felt like I could help, and I posted a doc updated that clarifies how to setup routing-protocol-redirect with BGP unnumbered
<mkalcok>
that's all from my side
<mmichelson>
Thanks mkalcok
<mmichelson>
I can do the next one.
<mmichelson>
I'm mostly been busy on the downstream side of things. I have an upstream backport of some pmtud fixes that I plan to post later today. I also had to scrap a few days work on composable services, unfortunately.
<mmichelson>
But I'm now pivoting in a different direction on that work, and I hope to have some preliminary patches posted by the end of the week. These patches won't actually add any composable service work, but they will be some refactoring work that lays the foundation for composable services to slot in more easily. It'll also save me the headache of rebasing.
<mmichelson>
Actually, it's already Thursday, so let's say those patches will happen early next week instead.
<mmichelson>
That's all from me.
<mmichelson>
Who wants to give the next update?
<fnordahl>
I have an update
<mmichelson>
fnordahl, let's hear it.
<fnordahl>
Have been on PTO for the past week and a half, and had the joy of fixing an upstream xdp-tools bug that caused issues downsream for Open vSwitch AF_XDP port support.
<fnordahl>
Other than that I'm doing some reviews for OVN, specifically approach to consuming RTPROT_OVN macro from kernel and mj2's multi-node test.
<fnordahl>
Will provide feedback to the list on the latter as soon as I get through poking at the environment and reading up on the discussion (and clearing vacation backlog).
<fnordahl>
That's it for me.
<mmichelson>
Thanks fnordahl
<felixhuettner>
I could continue
<mmichelson>
felixhuettner, go right ahead
<felixhuettner>
I worked on a few patches regarding dynamic routing. Some of them already merged thanks to dceara.
<felixhuettner>
Additionally i worked on the IDL performance issues i mentioned last week. Maybe they are done by tomorrow, otherwise start of next week.
<felixhuettner>
I also started reworking the rarp_garp sending code, to move most of it out to an engine node.
<felixhuettner>
We had a patch for that already in November, but hopefully the new one is significantly more efficient again.
<felixhuettner>
At least for our environment we hope to cut around 40% of cpu time with that on some system.
<felixhuettner>
thats it from me
<mmichelson>
thanks felixhuettner
<mmichelson>
Does anyone else want to give an update?
<imaximets>
o/ may I?
<mmichelson>
imaximets, you may
<imaximets>
I did some reviews here and there and posted some minor patches. The main work this week however in OVS.
<imaximets>
I posted removal of STT support in OVs, so that will be gone in 3.6.
<imaximets>
OVn will need a follow up for that as well.
<imaximets>
And I'm doing minor releases for a bunch of OVS branches today.
<imaximets>
Will be moving OVN submodules on corresponding branches after that.
<imaximets>
That will aslo conclude support of OVS 2.17, 3.0 and 3.1 as they all go EoL.
<imaximets>
That's all from me.
<mmichelson>
Thanks imaximets
<mmichelson>
Do we have any further updates from anyone else?
<amusil>
I can quickly
<mmichelson>
amusil, sure thing
<amusil>
Posted a patch to support option about cleanup during controller shutdown
<amusil>
Also small fix for wrong configuration which could cause assert and northd crash, now it's just warning
<amusil>
Refactor for the multicast group split handling because I have anticipated more work in this area, but that won't happen probably, the refactor is still useful IMO
<amusil>
That's about it, thanks
<mmichelson>
THanks amusil
<mmichelson>
anyone else?
<mkalcok>
pretty fast-paced meeting this week :)
<mmichelson>
Thanks everyone, and I'll talk with you next week. Just as a reminder, the release of 25.03.0 is scheduled for Friday 8 March. We'll have one more meeting before then, but I suspect we should be good to go on that date.
<mmichelson>
Bye!
<dceara>
Thanks, bye!
