Wizzup: sicelo: i edited N900 wiki a bit to make things clearer and easier concerning fresh install (i didn't modify the installation section, just the tips/tweaks part)
<Wizzup>
great, ty
<dsc_>
sorry arno11 ill change it
<arno11>
apt-worker and 125mhz freq are the main issues on a fresh install IMO (and the fact that once hildon-desktop is visible, Leste is not completely loaded)
<arno11>
dsc_: cool thx
<Wizzup>
arno11: how about swap?
<arno11>
Wizzup: ?
<Wizzup>
is the swap problem solved?
<arno11>
ah you mean on boot
<Wizzup>
right
<arno11>
nope, not solved
<Wizzup>
oh, and this was only on first boot, right?
<arno11>
yep, and running swapon on first boot solves the issue
<Wizzup>
arno11: ok, I am grepping for swap in /etc/ a bit but no clue why yet
<Wizzup>
freemangordon: the frankenbattery, can that also be charged to say 4.35V or so?
<dsc_>
arno11: there is a new version
<arno11>
dsc_: ok i'll try in a bit

Wizzup: pretty sure we can't make swap stuff running on first boot without 'sw' option instead of default (in postinst script)
<arno11>
(but indeed, this option is not needed after)
ikmaak2 is now known as ikmaak
<sicelo>
tbh, i never heard of the `sw` option before. have checked a few places now, and it seems it doesn't really work on linux?
<arno11>
it works i tried
<sicelo>
why would it behave differently between boots?
<arno11>
on my device: /dev/mmcblk1p3 swap swap sw 0 0
<arno11>
sicelo: no idea
<arno11>
if you add stuff in /etc/fstab from user space, you don't need sw option if you run swapon before rebooting
<arno11>
the problem is really during the first boot otherwise 'sw' isn't important
<sicelo>
i just fail to understand what would make first boot different :-)
<arno11>
me too
<arno11>
the question is: is it a problem/security issue to use 'sw' option in fstab ?
<arno11>
otherwise we have just to replace 'defaults' by 'sw' in postinst script and the issue is solved :D
<sicelo>
what does the default swap line on leste look like for now?
<arno11>
/dev/mmcblk1p3 none swap defaults 0 0
<arno11>
'defaults' is the problem
<arno11>
it setups the swap but not starting it
<arno11>
need swapon which is 'sw' option
<sicelo>
there's no clear documentation for that option unfortunately, it seems, but i've just looked at my Sid install, and i also have `UUID=a06aa954-394e-4d6d-ae42-dcbd8975086b none swap sw 0 0`
<sicelo>
so it does seem to be working somehow
<arno11>
yep definitely unclear
<sicelo>
just out of curiosity, what if you set the swap line to: `/dev/mmcblk1p3 none swap nofail 0 0`
<arno11>
iirc most fstab options are not working for swap partitions
<arno11>
nofail or defaults or sicelo will be the same: working but not on first boot lol
<sicelo>
strange. maybe we have another problem somewhere else then?
<sicelo>
i really don't see why it should matter what boot cycle you're on
<arno11>
that's Wizzup advice too
<arno11>
that's over my skills
<sicelo>
have to look at some of the initialization scripts that actually mount the swap
<arno11>
ok
* sicelo
clones util-linux source ... hope it won't take a decade. internet's been super slow for me last couple of weeks

me too, probably solar radiation stuff
<arno11>
or most probably ISP failure lol
<sicelo>
yes, in my case it's the ISP, which I happen to work for ...
<arno11>
ISP's...everywhere the same s**t

<arno11>
sicelo: i've just looked at my Ubuntu fstab and i have also the sw option
<arno11>
so it seems not to be a bug or something missing/not working on Leste
