austriancoder: we had discussed it in the past, but no official policy has been taken for upstream side of firmware blob, primarily because the kernel side upstreaming was still in flux

at least unless the API details settles down, at least i am of the opinion that it is not advisable to cause upstream churn.. esp the firmware side
