macromorgan: The Anbernic RG535M goes on sale soon and I'm tempted to get one just to muck about with mainline on it. Should I get one or would it be better to buy the same one that you already have?
<macromorgan>
I'm getting a 353M too for mainline purposes
<macromorgan>
it's probably functionally similar to the 353P though, I'm just curious if the hall effect joysticks work differently
<macromorgan>
For kernel hacking and U-Boot hacking purposes I use my 503 and 353P though, but that's just because I rigged my setup to be easier to get a serial port on (especially on my 503 where I modded the case as well).
<macromorgan>
all drivers for 503, 353P, 353V/VS have been submitted upstream for Linux and I'm just waiting for the panel drivers to get accepted, everything else is either in 6.1 or will be in 6.2.
<macromorgan>
wifi and bluetooth are the things I haven't done though... I rigged a wifi driver up but it's not working very well. The state of realtek SDIO drivers for wifi in Linux is pretty poor
<robmur01>
The state of Realtek drivers in general is arguably not much better :P
<macromorgan>
you're not wrong... they're objectively pretty terrible
<CounterPillow>
realtek is the most popular brand among staging/ enthusiasts

near as I can tell the main issue with realtek is it's a softmac pretending to be a fullmac... basically the driver does everything that mac80211 could be doing. Of course they could just use mac80211 and cut out like 90% of the code
