<chewitt> @jbrunet ping!

<chewitt> question: is it possible to use the lineout/headphone jack on a GXBB board with current state upstream?
<cyph84> lol.... i have been banging my head against that
<chewitt> I'm poking the WeTek Play2 box which has an everest,es7134 DAC

<chewitt> ahh, no worries

<xdarklight> chewitt: I think it is possible. I have previously used a PCM1794 I2S breakout board (for Raspberry Pi's) on my Odroid-C1 (Meson8b - so virtually identical audio IP as GXBB)
<chewitt> xdarklight do you have the device-tree bits in a repo anywhere?
<chewitt> I've been testing with my usual routine of copy/paste => observe to see what changed or broke, but didn't stumble on a working config yet :)
<xdarklight> chewitt: I'm sure I do. the better question is: can I find it :D
<xdarklight> chewitt: maybe you can share what you have so far (.dts + kernel .config)

<chewitt> it compiles, but there are no controls so I'm not sure how I would switch output from HDMI to the lineout jack
<chewitt> but I'm not entirely sure what to expect on the userspace side
<xdarklight> chewitt: I'll need to check later, still have $daytime job work to do
<chewitt> I also need to find some headphones with a 3.5mm jack for testing - all my normal ones are BT based these days

<xdarklight> chewitt: I think there are no controls. I2S output is fed internally to the HDMI TX IP and also (depending on pinctrl settings, see the &aiu node in my odroidc1.dts) to anything electrically connected to the SoC's I2S pins. the I2S signal should be the same
<xdarklight> chewitt: I think in theory you could even have two es7134 connected using the same I2S output on the SoC to get dual headphone output - neither of them will have any control, they're always active
<xdarklight> chewitt: missing pin control is the most likely issue in your case, see the &aiu node in your meson-gxbb-wetek-play2.dts (it only lists SPDIF, not I2S)
<xdarklight> chewitt: also a disclaimer: don't trust my /sound/audio-routing property - I never understood it ;-)
<chewitt> that makes two of us :)

<xdarklight> chewitt: RE finding headphones - I have a few junk ones lying around which I wouldn't even consider for consuming any audio. but they're great for verifying if I get some noise that remotely sounds like something I'm playing on a dev board ;)
<xdarklight> chewitt: RE pinctrl - I checked and GXBB only has one path for I2S channel 0 and 1 audio output. try this on top of your patch: https://paste.debian.net/hidden/508fb96a/
