hello. any guesses whether an RX 580/i5 3570K should be able to decode 4K HEVC smoothly up to 24 fps?

Psy-Q: I think that GPU decodes H.265 in hardware, so I'd be surprised if it wasn't fine
<Psy-Q>
fantastic, thanks
<Psy-Q>
then i'll be slapping together some old leftover parts

hm. good news is yeah, it seems to work fine. bad news it that the PSU fan is too loud on this
<Psy-Q>
and no juice in the CMOS battery. oh well.
<colo>
heh, it happens
<Psy-Q>
i was looking for an alternative to running jellyfin on the old LG TV. it doesn't have the official app in the webOS store because it's too old, and sideloading things on webOS is a pain
<colo>
I wasn't even aware you could install anything custom on webOS ;)
<colo>
but separating compute from display always seemed like a wise idea
<Psy-Q>
it's very fun because you can SSH into the TV. and your username is something like "prisoner"
<Psy-Q>
comes with the webOS SDK
<Psy-Q>
actually, it's not something like prisoner. it *is* prisoner :D
<colo>
lol
<colo>
:(
<Psy-Q>
the trouble is that the TV will erase the sideloaded stuff when it switches out of developer mode (at least mine does), and that's after 96 hours unless you prolong the session every time :D
<colo>
crazy shit
