Meanwhile KDE Spectacle offering to save screenshots as .cur or .ico files, but not .webp (Ubuntu 22.04)! Both sides work hard to keep the Linux desktop share at 1%.

<midfavila>
yes, the correct way to know when to take the trash out is to use docker, python, and a bunch of webshit
<midfavila>
clearly self-evident
<testuser[m]>
> docker - which is a utility which lets me run individual scripts as standalone containers, separate from the rest of my operating system.
<testuser[m]>
WTF
<phoebos>
i just don't get how it makes more sense to people to set up a docker image of alpine with python inside it rather than just running python
<phoebos>
"to avoid clutter"
<testuser[m]>
Why do people think docker is the only way to separate stuff
<phoebos>
never heard of mkdir
<midfavila>
because chroots and namespaces don't exist
<testuser[m]>
And the scripts are probably stateless
<midfavila>
and filesystems are too advanced for modern computer users
<midfavila>
if I can't just dump everything in my downloads directory and search for things as I need them, how am I supposed to find anything
<testuser[m]>
I'd only use docker if i was using some nodejs junk with 2000 deps
<midfavila>
i would just
<midfavila>
not use nodejs lmao
<testuser[m]>
Sometimes u might need it
<midfavila>
doubt
<testuser[m]>
Like hosting software meant for humans
<midfavila>
i mean,
<midfavila>
i just like
<midfavila>
wouldn't do that
<midfavila>
don't need node if you don't put yourself in situations where you might need node
* midfavila
nods sagely
<midfavila>
besides, how does node relate to "hosting software meant for humans"
<testuser[m]>
Web apps
<testuser[m]>
Jitsi
<testuser[m]>
Element web
<testuser[m]>
Nextcloud ? Ig that's php or something
<midfavila>
you don't need node for web apps, inherently
<midfavila>
i mean, unless web programming is fundamentally different from a few years back
<midfavila>
"the year is 2022. unix is dead. the only programming language allowed -- by law -- is JavaScript."

full stack engineering
<midfavila>
god I hate it when people call programming "engineering"
<testuser[m]>
Same
<testuser[m]>
UI/UX engineer
<midfavila>
like, no, you're not a software engineer, you're a programmer. stfu nerd
<midfavila>
you're not a "UX Engineer", you're a graphic designer
<testuser[m]>
Also every piece of software is an "app" now
<testuser[m]>
gcc app
<phoebos>
^
<phoebos>
i've had to explain "software, it's like an app" a few times
<midfavila>
i think that that bothers me less than the hyperspecificity some programs have these days
<midfavila>
like "note-taking apps" or "pomodoro apps"
<midfavila>
use a goddamn text editor and a standard clock. it's *really* not that hard
<testuser[m]>
But a regular alarm doesn't track you
<testuser[m]>
🚀
<noocsharp>
he did say that it isn't necessary to use docker

I've had `udhcpd` before, but now its not in `busybox --list`. It's =y in .config and seems to get built, although there's a warning "trying to reassign symbol CONFIG_UDHCPD"..
<phinxy>
Perhaps "#CONFIG_UDHCPD IS NOT SET" counts as a set option, even though it looks like a comment!
<phinxy>
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.
