<d1b2> <dajo> Ok @icb, thank you for the tip! Is that just as easy as pre-ordering at https://www.crowdsupply.com/1bitsquared/glasgow ? Or is there a special procedure I should follow? Thank you in advance. If anyone can still share their spare glasgow board, please let me know. I only need two more 😀 👍
<sorear> @dajo you need a time machine; the "Early Bird devices" were the first 200 glasgow units claimed during the campaign
<sorear> so find one of the first 200 backers (which does not include me) and see if you can borrow their board after it's made
<mats1> is the crowdsupply road map authoritative?
<sorear> road map? all of the mfg updates are there
<d1b2> <dajo> ok, I do not have one unfortunately 😅 . I was just responding to @icb's great remark that there might be a chance some of the early bird devices be available for the workshop. So I am wondering what I could do to borrow or buy three of these devices if the possibility is there. It would be really great.
<mats1> sorry, that's vague. is the ship date for jun2022 solid? thats a long time to front preorder money
<mats1> and no plans for a revC3 anytime soon, right?
<sorear> I haven't heard of any plans for revC changes more recent than the crowdsupply campaign
<mats1> the 'may require a rewrite' addendum to WIP means just software, not a future revision, correct?
<sorear> I'm not 100% solid on the numbering, I think the version that will ship might be revC3, but the only changes will be "make it easier to source parts"
<mats1> sorry for the dumb questions, i appreciate your time
<sorear> re. jun2022 - idk if anyone knows when the electronics shortage will end, that's probably a NET date, the early bird units were supposed to ship mar21 and the "general" backer units may21, but obviously neither have happened
<sorear> « Note: features marked with "WIP" are Work In Progress, which means they are preview only and require more work or even a rewrite. » refers to software immaturity, not hardware changes
<d1b2> <DX-MON> the version that will ship with the campaign is revC3 as it contains fixes for some bugs in revC2 which require fixing (this is why building C2s is discouraged)
<d1b2> <DX-MON> the dates given are all estimates and knocked into the future by the chip shortage as explained in one of the campaign updates
<d1b2> <DX-MON> however, the hope is that one of the key vendors follows through and delivers when they say they will - if this happens on time, then early bird units will most likely be assembled late September
<d1b2> <DX-MON> I believe the plan is that revC3 will be finalised once the parts that will be used to assemble the campaign run are all in and therefore finalised as a pre-production run of the revC3 boards needs to be done before committing to production
<d1b2> <DX-MON> this is being done specifically because of the chip shortage, and should a vendor pull the order of a part for Glasgow at the last minute this requires a revision to part selection and has the potential to increase the lead time
<d1b2> <dajo> Ok that sounds bad for my workshop. We can also use older revisions if someone has one of those somewhere catching dust because you also have newer revisions. Please let me know if you can help me out...
<d1b2> <DX-MON> also, all official revisions and boards are supported so it won't matter if you have a mix of revC1s, revC2s and revC3s as they'll all work the same for the purpose of your workshop
<d1b2> <esden> @dajo when is your workshop?
<d1b2> <dajo> december 8
<d1b2> <dajo> There are a few sessions. The last one is the third week of march.
<d1b2> <esden> @dajo So i might be able to help you out. Especially if all you need is one or two units... I don't want your class to fail just because you can't get the hardware on time.
<d1b2> <esden> December 8 is still some time away. So I really hope we will be building some Glasgows by then. 🤞 ...
<d1b2> <esden> drop me an email to info@1bitsquared.com
<d1b2> <dajo> O wow many thanks @esden !
