<mripard>
geertu: I don't believe that anything is broken currently, so it would be difficult for me to explain and convince people over something I don't believe myself

conchuod: partially ... somehow I stopped at "it breaks current boards" and that whole discussion is material for headaches it seems
<conchuod>
mmind00: Ye, was a bit of a headache for me as I struggled to understand exactly what people were claiming would break. It seemed like high speed modes just didn't work from one person's description and then from another it was data corruption!
<conchuod>
But since it seems like the impact of the default is the same on either side, someone just has to decide who wins.
<mmind00>
conchuod: I guess the line of "most board broken by the new default introduced in 2020 'might' already be fixed" is likely the most interesting datapoint there
<conchuod>
mmind00: I guess it remains to be seen if they are. One of the dudes on that series did say they'd send patches for what was missing and then I guess you'd see the fallout.
<mmind00>
conchuod: yep ... but as I said in my mail reply, I'm essentially in line with Dragan ... to not rip up the whole carpet again at this stage
<conchuod>
Yeah, if I had to vote I'd vote for keeping what we have and that dude sending his patches for the missing properties.
<conchuod>
Takeaway for me is needing to be more vigilant about bindings where people add properties with defaults and making sure those defaults reflect the existing behaviour though. Often that's unclear, but we probably stand a better chance of catching them with 3x the number of people reviewing bindings than in 2020
