<scosu[m]>
If a watchdog driver stops an active watchdog during probe, is that expected/normal behavior or should it keep the state of the watchdog untouched? (the watchdog was started by uboot)
Tokamak has quit [Ping timeout: 256 seconds]
<maz>
scosu[m]: it would seems normal that the watchdog gets reset, as the kernel has no idea of why is was set, nor whether something else is going to feed that watchdog at a later time (and/or when).
<broonie>
It does seem like something that the driver/subsystem should offer configuration for in order to allow for continuity of watchdog protection.

<sven>
iirc you can set WDOG_RUNNING or something like that inside probe when it's already running
<scosu[m]>
broonie: To be honest I didn't check the subsystem yet, just saw that the code is executed unconditionally
<sven>
WDOG_HW_RUNNING actually
<scosu[m]>
ah thanks I will check that and see whether I will implement it for that specific driver

<ukleinek>
scosu[m]: WATCHDOG_HANDLE_BOOT_ENABLED might be relevant
<ukleinek>
scosu[m]: the help text suggests that .probe should not stop a watchdog
<scosu[m]>
ukleinek: Ah thanks for the pointer, indeed it is relevant. And yes I already noticed that there is a patch that fixes it in a newer kernel version.
