<Xogium>
that reminds me of the time I was asked to see if I could get the ssd1306 display work for a project… Turns out that I exceeded their expectation and it actually showed a linux login prompt x.x
<Xogium>
I didn't know it would

<Xogium>
guy was like, how did you do that ?! Me: err… do what ?
<Xogium>
that was very funny

<javierm>
geertu: hehe, that shows why your proposed Rx formats are really "light-on-dark" since for some reasons they choose the pixels to be blue-ish
<Xogium>
I was like… I just set up a node in the device tree, where's the fire ? Lol
<javierm>
geertu: btw, are you planning to re-spin those patches or v2 is ready to be merged ?
<geertu>
Xogium: I guess the display was too small to show the Penguin logo? (hence no more bonus points for you ;-)
<javierm>
Xogium: yup, in this case though is a brand new DRM driver :)
<Xogium>
javierm: oh really ? How interesting. What was wrong with the other ?
<Xogium>
geertu: hmm was it ? Possibly… It was 1.3 inch

Xogium: it was a fbdev driver and that subsystem has been deprecated for a long time
<Xogium>
it was quite small but it could even scroll the text and display it not too badly, or so I was told
<Xogium>
javierm: oooh, didn't know that
<Xogium>
could be fun to test… Too bad the dev platform that he picked for his project almost litterally caught on fire on my kitchen table and died some horrible death… And thus went my trust in allwinner and in xunlong
<Xogium>
:D
<Xogium>
I have a scar in the plam of my left hand thanks to that stupid h2+
<Xogium>
*palm even
<geertu>
javierm: Slowly working on it. More endianness issues to fix in 16-bpp handling.... + need proper mode setting instead of fixed boot mode in atari_drm.
<Xogium>
I didn't know it was a feature of this SoC and board, automatically catch on fire under specific condition… so if you guys have orange pi boards, do be careful
<javierm>
geertu: got it. Your atari drm driver is really an amazing experiment
<geertu>
javierm: I actually started on that 2 years ago. It was very frustrating in the beginning.
<geertu>
Thanks (sic) to the console acceleration discussions, I decided to bite the bullet and fix it. Still, took a while to make it not crash or error out and get some output.
<javierm>
geertu: ah, I see. I thought that this project started from the discussion we had about the gaps in DRM to scale down to very small displays
<geertu>
javierm: Since when was fbdev deprecated? 8y ago? The message was always "but there is now tinydrm, and there are helpers for anything, so porting to drm should be a breeze"
<geertu>
Works fine, as long as you have a little-endian truecolor frame buffer ;-)
<geertu>
Time to stop venting, back to real paid work ;-)
<javierm>
geertu: hehe. Sorry for distracting you!
<arnd>
I have rebased my old multiplatform patches, and I now have a local tree that converts all the ARMv5 and ARMv4T platforms, i.e. ARM9 and Xscale based
<ukleinek>
oh, interesting, this was the result of a dirty build. Never mind
<milkylainen>
:)
<milkylainen>
Almost looked like a arm / x86 dirty build?
<geertu>
milkylainen: Don't let your non-x86 be infected by x86 ;-)

nathanchance: hey, sorry the defconfig build broke. IIUC the compat stuff isn't in next any more, but it wasn't supposed to be in the first place so no promises ;)
wolfshappen has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<nathanchance>
palmer: No worries, I always expect the week after -rc1 to be real rough in -next as everyone pushes the stuff they want for the next merge window in :)
<palmer>
this one's a bit messier, it was know to break a handful of builds so really shouldn't have been in there to begin with
<palmer>
hopefully Guo has dropped it, I don't see it in 20220405
