<c0rnelius77> under share def you can name stuff whatever and point it to the directory you want. https://paste.debian.net/1299549/
<DC-IRC>
<c0rnelius77> what I usually do is own those dir; so if my username is `marvin` i would `sudo chown -R marvin:marvin /mnt/external/Music`
<DC-IRC>
<c0rnelius77> i'm sure there is more sophisticated ways of handling it, but on a local network that no one else has access to. less is better.
<DC-IRC>
<jreckart> ok
<DC-IRC>
<jreckart> will try
<DC-IRC>
<jreckart> still get windows error when trying to access that specific share.
<DC-IRC>
<jreckart> i have two shares in the smb.conf
<DC-IRC>
<jreckart> one is [PiShare] and is mapped to /var/www/html
<DC-IRC>
<jreckart> other is [PythonShare] and mapped to /python
<DC-IRC>
<jreckart> i can access or at least view the files in the [Pishare], so the samba sever is working to some extent
<DC-IRC>
<c0rnelius77> i always own my /var/www/html
<DC-IRC>
<jreckart> but when in try to open the {python share it displays a windows 10 dialog box stating it cannot access it

<ujur00700> I want to share my experience using Armbian.
<DC-IRC>
<ujur00700> I came to know about Arbian from a tool called raspiAP. It has mentioned support for Arbian OS for creating wireless access point using SBC.
<DC-IRC>
<ujur00700> My personal experiece so far(less than a week) is so nice with Armbian. I wanted to create an access point using Raspberry Pi. For that, I had tried Ubuntu in the past but it had failed after so many attemts. Compared to that just withing two days on Armbian it has started to function...!!😊
<DC-IRC>
<ujur00700> I am using RaspberryPi with PoE Hat on it. So I am using Ethernet as a primery mode of power+internet and WiFi for creating a hotspot.
<DC-IRC>
<ujur00700> How did I make it work?

<ujur00700> How did I make it work?
<DC-IRC>
<ujur00700> Well, first, I downloaded the cmd image of Armbian Jammy and latter installed desktop client on it. Tried to disable the wireless connection and enable to ethernet connection from nmtui.
<DC-IRC>
<ujur00700> Then I made sure that internet is working. The next part was bit hard as I was new to this. The I tried creating a Hotspot from the desktop screen from WiFi settings.
<DC-IRC>
<ujur00700> It did not start at first, may be due to wifi deamon not installed or bridge not configured. I do not know what the exact reason may be, but when I tried to start hotspot from nmtui/armbian-config, it installed those two deamons mentioned in the docs.
<DC-IRC>
<ujur00700> I also tried to installed the raspAP, maybe that could have created bridge device and installed required softwares.
<DC-IRC>
<ujur00700> At last, I wanted to have my AP start when I reboot. for that I enabled autoreconnect from NetworkManager for both the AP and the Bridge. And not it works.....

how do I resume armbian build process after it failed?

so I'm not starting from zero

willmore_ is now known as willmore
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> You can just start it and it will work
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> Most of the things get cached and gets reused. so you are not starting from zero
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> Also new images are published for your board, so you probably can just download the same
<norton>
bookworm images?
<norton>
i'm not sure my hardware would like it
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> Your choice. I had run bookworm without desktop on NTC CHIP (Allwinner R8 processor) in the past and havent faced any issues
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> In case you face build failure again, please upload the complete output/log to paste.armbian.com and share the logs for the URL here. Don't paste only selected section from the log. Doesn't help much in figuring out the issue

<DC-IRC>
<nottoosmart> is there any way to disable auto login for the desktop env
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> Either use armbian-config > System > Desktop, or delete /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/22-armbian-autologin.conf
<DC-IRC>
<igorpec> autologin is disabled automatically
<DC-IRC>
<igorpec> is only at first boot, at least this is how its designed
<DC-IRC>
<igorpec> its a feature (to not bother you to authenticate again) not a bug
<DC-IRC>
<nottoosmart> thats not how it was working. unless i did something wrong. i went through the steps @viraniac provided and it worked
<DC-IRC>
<igorpec> yes, that file is deleted in some job, but job could not work ...
joshaspinall has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<DC-IRC>
<igorpec> will verify if this has troubles
<DC-IRC>
<nottoosmart> seems weird though since i have to actually start the dm manually everytime now though. this was a server install then added dm after. ill keep plugging away to see if I can get it working
<DC-IRC>
<igorpec> "this was a server install then added dm after" ahaa, that expains
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> When we install server image and then install desktop on that using armbian-config, then by default autologin is enabled. Then user have to go through armbian-config again to disable the same
<DC-IRC>
<igorpec> yes, true
<DC-IRC>
<igorpec> automatic is just with desktop image
<DC-IRC>
<nottoosmart> ok
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> So dm is not getting started automatically now? Thats weird. Is that after trying to disable autoinstall?
<DC-IRC>
<nottoosmart> saw this solution and tried it: systemctl set-default multi-user.target that broke the autologin for dm even through armbian-config. I just tried: sudo systemctl set-default graphical.target and now its autologin again to dm and it opens the display resolution setting each time
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> yes, multi-user.target is similar to runlevel 3. That is just cli mode. graphical target is where desktop starts. To disable autologin, either delete the file I mentioned or user armbian-config. Its possible you have to use armbian-config > system > desktop option twice. Atleast based on the code that what I can deduce
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> @nottoosmart are you doing log out of session with "save your current programs"? if you aren't and just reboot/shutdown it will repeat whatever was your last session over and over.. thats why you keep gettig the resolution set window
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> The window managers are very particular about selecting/saving open apps
<DC-IRC>
<nottoosmart> no clue but it seemed to stop. im in XFCE
<DC-IRC>
<nottoosmart> deleting the file fixed the issue. now on to other fun stuff. Thank you

<nottoosmart> ok so this keeps happening. it only takes a few hours before i start getting errors regarding pub keys when trying to do apt update
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> Not 100% sure, but we just did a new release today. I guess its possible mirrors are still syncing. I will suggest to try again later
<DC-IRC>
<nottoosmart> ok, this happened about 2 weeks ago too. ill keep an eye on it and try it later tonight or tomorrow
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> @viraniac @igorpec tnahosting has been doing that on and off for a while
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> Something needs to be checked on that site to keep the keys up to date
<DC-IRC>
<igorpec> i'll look after,

<nottoosmart> gonna start from a scratch install. when i go to armbian to download for the OPi 5+ and the directory is empty.
<DC-IRC>
<nottoosmart> any ideas?
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> let me check
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> which image were you trying to install?
<DC-IRC>
<nottoosmart> well i was looking to see the bookworm latest minimal but then i found another one with jammy having todays date
<DC-IRC>
<nottoosmart> whats diff between jammy and bookworm?
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> one is ubuntu based other is debian based
<DC-IRC>
<nottoosmart> but isnt ubuntu debian based?
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> yes, but ubuntu takes packages from debian testing instead of latest debian release. Also ubuntu adds their own customizations on top
<DC-IRC>
<nottoosmart> gotcha. so is there one that is more supported than the other?
<DC-IRC>
<nottoosmart> or more stable i should say?
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> Looks like image didn't got synced to US and Asia mirrors. But you can use the EU mirror to download the image
<DC-IRC>
<nottoosmart> thanks
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> Armbian support is based on our own versions. If Image comes from us, we support the same. Which userland you choose whether jammy based or bookworm based is entirely upto your use case. Sometimes some packages are available on one but not the other
