<DC-IRC> [Discord] <eternalightwithin> I have a Rockpi 5 Plus. Donloaded Armbian_23.11.1_Orangepi5-plus_bookworm_legacy_5.10.160.img.xz https://armbian.lv.auroradev.org/dl/orangepi5-plus/archive/ and flashed to 256gb emmc. This version is pretty old, but it boots up to CLI fine. I want to use the 6.7 kernel image. I tried putting in on a SD but orangepi will not boot. Is there a way to upgrade bookworm 5.10 to 6.X <clipped message>
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <eternalightwithin> ? Can I do this following Armbian How to upgrade distribution at https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Getting-Started/

<DC-IRC> [Discord] <eternalightwithin> Unfortunately I don't have a USB to TTL debug device
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <spooky8086> I believe the 6.7 images uses mainline uboot now, you would need to make sure to clear the spi flash.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <spooky8086> Also be aware 6.7 is highly experimental, I would recomend using a USB to TTL debug cable. The 5.10.160 kernel is the only one available that fully supports the rk3588 hardware.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> True, switching from 5.10 to 6.7 is not really an upgrade but switching the code base.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <spooky8086> Additionally his system could be booting, but hdmi is buggy on mainline, some monitors will not work
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <efectn> I think opi5 uses mainline uboot
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <efectn> Not sure about opi5+
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Yeah. Having access to debug console is mandatory
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <eternalightwithin> I don't think it's booting, as the LED goes green as normal but after 5 seconds goes to red.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <eternalightwithin> The reason being that 5.10 has pulseaudio and my wifi dongle won't work. Versions past 5.10 has pipewire and my wifi brostrend says that 6.1+ has built in wifi driver
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <efectn> Which wireless driver do you need
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <eternalightwithin> Brostrend AC3L v2
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <eternalightwithin> It works on RPi CM4 with Rasbian OS bookworm but even then you have to compile it and it's a pain. Kinda janky
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <efectn> What is lspci output
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <spooky8086> It should be rtl8812au or rtl88x2bu from what I see online
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> 8812au seems to be right
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> There seems to be some dkms package
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <efectn> 88x2bu should be supported on mainline
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <efectn> But there is another point. Not all pci ids are added to driver
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <efectn> 88x2bu should be supported on mainline/legacy
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <eternalightwithin> yes that's right. 88xbu. it doesn't detect it. lspci just gives me PCI Bridge and ethernet 2.5gb
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <efectn> Can you send pci id
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <efectn> I have 8822bu and it was working properly
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <eternalightwithin> When I type in sh -c 'wget linux.brostrend.com/install -O /tmp/install && sh /tmp/install' it says it can't find headers. which is strange as rasbian 5.10 worked
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Are the headers installed?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <eternalightwithin> .... I guess not. 😅
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Try installing via armbian-config
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <eternalightwithin> ok thanks
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> May work, may not. Header install has not always been reliable for some reason. Sometimes they are missing in repo 😦
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <eternalightwithin> Do sudo apt update sudo apt upgrade, then do headers?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Try
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <eternalightwithin> ok
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Maybe try `sh -c 'wget deb.trendtechcn.com/installer.sh -O /tmp/installer.sh && sh /tmp/installer.sh'`
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Found in some pdf about ac1l ac3l wifi adapter from brostrend
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <eternalightwithin> it got further lol.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <eternalightwithin> not to change the subject but I noticed a change kernel in armbianconfig. they have a Linux image edge rk35xx=23.02.2-6.1.11. what would happen😅
