<Armbian-Discord> <lanefu> Worth testing and reporting
<Armbian-Discord> <br> I have it installed on my emmc, and the only issues I have are that the battery gauge doesn’t show automatically in KDE (not sure how to fix that), and the backlight brightness isn’t controllable with the keyboard (but reading from and writing to /sys/class/backlight/edp-whatever/brightnessworks). I’m sure there’s just some missing laptop enablement package or something, but I really have no idea what. Also
<Armbian-Discord> not sure if Plymouth works or not — I didn’t get a graphical boot screen, and I think I remember that EFI booting usually uses the EFI console for early boot rather than fbcon or something?
<Armbian-Discord> <br> But I didn’t actually try to get a boot screen, it might just not be enabled by default in the armbian Sid aarch64 builds?
<Armbian-Discord> <br> armbian-config shows that it’s using a pinebook pro device tree. Or at least, the device tree says Pinebook Pro in it. I didn’t compare it or anything
<Armbian-Discord> <Tenkawa> @br have you checked the /sys/devices/platform/ff3d0000.i2c/i2c-4/4-0062/power_supply/cw2015-battery fs tree for power info?
<Armbian-Discord> <Tenkawa> that's where it is in my devicetree
<Armbian-Discord> <balbes150> the installation has always worked, it uses extlinux.conf mode. When starting from an SD card in EFI mode , do you see a picture with a penguin and the inscription Armbian on the screen ? When installing on eMMC\NVMe, do you see this penguin at system startup?
<Armbian-Discord> <MicroLinux (Salva)> I need to check that
<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> > I didn’t get a graphical boot
<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> it was disabled recently due to maintaining nightmare of keeping low footprint kernel logo. plymouth I have tried to add, but failed

<Armbian-Discord> <ManoftheSea> why GRUB?
<Armbian-Discord> <ManoftheSea> If u-boot can load EFI and fixup DT, and Linux can boot from EFI environment, what is the job that GRUB is doing?
<Armbian-Discord> <ManoftheSea> I'm surprised about Ubuntu requiring specific numbered partitions, or having a BIOS requirement in the cloud.
<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> some weird backward compatibility?
<Armbian-Discord> <ManoftheSea> "The cloud" is the last place I'd expect legacy crap like that.
<Armbian-Discord> <c0rnelius> grub doesn't require gpt, where systemd-boot does.
<Armbian-Discord> <Tonymac32> TheCloudIsJustSomeoneElsesComputer.jpg
<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> yeah 😉 you beat me
<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> and a buzzword that sale
<Armbian-Discord> <ManoftheSea> I thought we were specifically talking about GPT disks, though.
<Armbian-Discord> <ManoftheSea> But now I question whether partition 14 is a BIOS or an XBOOTLDR partition

<Armbian-Discord> <ManoftheSea> If the context is u-boot and not EFI, then u-boot has EXTLINUX rather than chaining to GRUB. Though, maybe there's a point to chaining to GRUB and then having GRUB do the EFI?
<Armbian-Discord> <ManoftheSea> and of course there's something to be said for just leaving cruft in place rather than fixing what isn't broken

<Armbian-Discord> <balbes150> The U-boot -> EFI - GRUB chain. GRUB - interacts well with EFI and has rich functionality with a flexible system of settings for different tasks.

<Armbian-Discord> <MicroLinux (Salva)> From grub I can choose which kernel I want to use on fedora
<Armbian-Discord> <ManoftheSea> but you can do that from u-boot with extlinux
<Armbian-Discord> <c0rnelius> could also use refind which is even more fancy.
<Armbian-Discord> <ManoftheSea> or the previously mentioned systemd-boot. There are lots of options for intermediate bootloader... or... boot-selector, I suppose.
<Armbian-Discord> <ManoftheSea> EFI menu?
<Armbian-Discord> <c0rnelius> yeah its a bootmanager like systemd-boot. gives you a more fancy and interactive menu than grub.
<Armbian-Discord> <c0rnelius> personally I'm not a fan of it, but if someone really wanted something interactive its pretty good.

<Armbian-Discord> <Tonymac32> my M4V2 is not recognizing the NVMe, it's also throwing some vreg errors on PCIe. does the maintainer have the NVMe hat?
<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> pci sometimes shows up, sometimes not
<Armbian-Discord> <Tonymac32> hmmmm
