Hi, (another dummy issue).. I have two images, one for release, one for development (contains rsyslog, gdbserver, strace and such things) I would like to update /etc/hosts to add a line, but only when I am using the development image. And I am looking for the best way to do it.
odra__ has joined #yocto
<Tyaku>
Currently this is how I imagine the things:
<Tyaku>
1. Put a variable "DEV=TRUE" and "DEV=FALSE" in my dev/realease image.
odra__ has quit [Client Quit]
<Tyaku>
2. Update the recipe that generate hosts to add a line in the file, but only if the variable DEV is true
<Tyaku>
Is that a good way ?

PhoenixMage: yes you can. But that could be also a hint that you should use MACHINEOVERRIDES mechanism to create "families" of machines (one family for example is aarch64, you could also have imx family for NXP-based boards, etc...)

Tyaku: at runtime or in the generated image?
<Tyaku>
mckoan, initialy I was doing it at runtime but I think it's not good,
<Tyaku>
Currently I'm watching to do it at generated image.
<Tyaku>
I'm trying qschulz answer

Can I change a PACKAGECONFIG of a recipe in an image receipe?
<qschulz>
Schlumpf: no, yocto chant #1: recipe data is local, configuration data is global
<qschulz>
you can only change whatever is inside a recipe for the same recipe
<mcfrisk>
hi, how to use native python3 modules? tried using python3-pyopenssl-native via DEPENDS and inherit python3native but it fails to load openssl shared library.
<Schlumpf>
qschulz: OK, thanks. Is there any proper way to change a PACKAGECONFIG per image? I need to change some config for a dev image. Only some really ugly hacks come to my mind... Maybe I am on the completely wrong track.
<qschulz>
Schlumpf: you should use two different distro configuration files
<RP>
mcfrisk: that is supposed to work but obviously it depends on the python module and whether those codepaths have been used before and debugged
<qschulz>
one for development and one for production/release
<mcfrisk>
RP: ok, then there's a bug somewhere. I'll debug deeper

<RP>
manuel1985: I think so
<RP>
zeddii: how annoying. Even if you binary patch it, the length of the string may still influence the binary from a reproducibilty perspective :(
<zeddii>
true that. I've degraded to using hexedit to look at the string in the binary, to maybe understand in what context it is being injected.
<zeddii>
and then figure out which build flag might be putting it there. no luck so far.
<RP>
zeddii: I've found objdump disasembly helpful before for that, see the context of the code
<zeddii>
it doesn't help that the string is super generic, and hard to search for online.
<zeddii>
in this case, it is clearly a capture of the build flags and the path to the final binary.
<zeddii>
and I've got every flags that I've ever found about debug, or flags, or version, or anything, hacked up and disabled .. but yet..
<RP>
zeddii: which section is it in?
<zeddii>
let me try objdump to figure that out. I'm seeing it via strings, and in the hexedit, but I don't know which section it is.
<RP>
zeddii: sometimes the filename/linenumbers in the disassembly from the debug info can narrow it down
<RP>
zeddii: another tip - does it disappear if you strip the binary?

Getting a strange issue. This is basically stock provided by ST. I can go ask them, but this exact same setup *used to work* with no changes: https://bpa.st/Q2P2EXC2TF6WJPVK6Y7OMNDF3E

Not finding much useful guidance on troubleshooting this. I get it's telling me there's no recipe available, but how do I figure out where they may be or figure out if there is some middle error?
<agherzan>
And I'm asking about the entire series there not just the first patch.
<sakoman>
agherzan: yes, please send the series to the list for review. I'll take them if there are no objections
<sakoman>
agherzan: ah, I see that series hasn't hit master yet. So, I'll need to wait for that to happen first.

sakoman: That is understandable and I would have done it afterwards anyway

It is already in master-next and I was more asking as a plan afterwards
