Tartarus: Of course the location of main U-Boot could be stored in the device-tree. But this will result in a larger binary then a Kconfig solution. For SPL size is often critically limited.

Again, it's why I'm asking what the solution to this problem barebox, or anyone else, has come up with

I don't see reading the location from the control dtb as an immediate huge size increase
