Am I the only person who finds the documentation and principle of phases when trying to understand modules absolutely and absurdly confusing?

Even after an hour of looking through various documentation about it while cooking breakfast, I still feel like I don't quite understand what's really so important. I think I understand what they are, but I am nothing but confused, and I don't even know what I am confused about, interestingly enough.
