feels like a simplistic question, but can't tell if i should request a login just to use moin for a family wiki / personal library?
<Guest27>
trying not to add unnecessary loading to anyone's stack.
<pabs3>
sounds like something you should host on your personal physical or virtual machine?
<Guest27>
i am expecting to, i think/hope

i know just enough to get myself in trouble with these things. 25 years ago, i would have been finished by now, but i focused skills elsewhere and these atrophied
<pabs3>
OTOH, moin 1.9 isn't supported any more, and moin2 isn't ready for release yet. so I'm not sure moin is the right wiki to use at this time

Guest27: don't run a wiki on a public ip without requiring some sort of log in / authentication. otherwise spammers will abuse the hell out of it.
<Guest27>
ThomasWaldmann much obliged. i would probably have secured it but not considered that aspect of why
<ThomasWaldmann>
some time there was the assumption that just reverting unwanted changes by the legitimate users works, but the amount of automated spam is often bigger than the engangement of users / time available for manual reverts.
