Hello, my aim is to replace android with debian plasma mobile. I managed to run debian wheezy over my old android 2 phone (GT-I5700 with S3C6410 with armv6). But I want to use a recent kernel with a recent debian release. Is it possible to directly boot on debian without chrooting from android ? If so, does anyone remember a keyword to use to look into irclog ?

the_edge123: We dropped support for s3c64xx, so you cannot boot mainline anymore, just some older release.

ok. I'll use an older release and maybe upgrade it to a recent base. What about the bootloader ? Is it possible to drop odin ?

the_edge123: no clue, there was only one guy doing this - tfiga - and he stopped wasting time on it years ago.

I doubt we are going to bring back that platform to life, because there is no real use case (and notice of deprecation was hanging for two years!)

So I just suggest about recyclingn that phone. If you want to play with mainline on old hardware, then something based on Exynos4412 or Exynos4212 - so the galaxy family.

If you have particular interests, then s5pv210 is still alive thanks to Jonathan and Paweł.

krzk: thanks for the feedback. I'll try to explore these tracks.

oh, wait, I was a bit wrong, the DTS based S3C64xx is still in the kernel. We deprecated only non-DTS machines. Yet my concerns about lack of support are still valid. :)

You can try to catch Tomasz Figa, maybe he remembers something how to run anything on S3C64xx

krzk: thanks again
