Cheaterman: in order to find the most acceptable solution to solve reboot issues (we already solved a bunch), we must first know the exact issues because it's highly unclear, and code doesn't help because they use a generic code for multiple board needing different actions
<narmstrong>
Cheaterman: what's missing upstream to use the RTC wakeup ? the suspend/poweroff wakeup is handled by the Odroid BL301 they control

chewitt: from the limited sample size I get, it looks to me like it might indeed be useless ; I got a N2+ failing to reboot despite having enabled it, and I got N2+'s rebooting just fine without it
<Cheaterman>
chewitt: darn about the upstream dts........ problem is, I'm fairly sure that one doesn't work as-is
<Cheaterman>
as in, I can't just boot that on my N2+
<Cheaterman>
but I sure would love to have that turned on by default, right now I disabled dtb upgrades entirely
<Cheaterman>
narmstrong: I absolutely agree about the reboot :-( I wish I could be of more help.... all I can say is from a user standpoint _sometimes_ reboot acts like poweroff and just leaves red LED on while blue shuts down forever
<Cheaterman>
And by _sometimes_ I truly mean "not that frequent" but.... I really need those machines to reboot reliably
<Cheaterman>
narmstrong: It's not about RTC wakeup, it's about having the corresponding I2C bus enabled by default
<Cheaterman>
Otherwise the RTC isn't detected _at all_, I only get /dev/rtc1 (meson_vrtc? from the name alone I assume it's a SoC-driven virtual RTC device that doesn't actually save time)
<Cheaterman>
Like the "ftdget" on my dtb (or the equivalent cat on the actual procfs file) does show the I2C bus as disabled by default
<Cheaterman>
so I had to do the fdtput to make it "okay" instead
<Cheaterman>
and next reboot I did get /dev/rtc0 and proper hwclock hctosys syncing
<Cheaterman>
(and a noticeable increase in boot speed, because I set up my system in a way that it tries delaying app start for as long as possible to try to let NTP synchronize beforehand so that logs get accurate date)
<Cheaterman>
(the delay is skipped if datetime "looks right")

narmstrong: Also FWIW I'm very committed to using the N2+ for work stuff so I'm more than happy to do experiments or submit patches or contribute in any other way
<Cheaterman>
(we already bought 30 of them, and I'm in love with how powerful they are despite being fanless and staying pretty cool)
<Cheaterman>
(and as you've probably seen me mention earlier, it's a very refreshing [pun intended] change from the hot, loud, and slow Pi's)

Cheaterman: any upstream work is more than welcome, it's ok to push whatever you think is worth in order to have a better situation, and we will work with other reviewers & maintainers towards getting the work merged
<narmstrong>
if the RTX is missin in the upstream dt, then it should definitely be added if it's on-board

(sorry.. crap irc client)

even if you don't have the battery installed you get faster reboots as the clock is preserved over a warm boot
