<DC-IRC> [Discord] <prahal> well I am out of clue as to why the big cpu cluster of the rk3399 on Helios64 board always crashes (Kobol team guessed it was related to cpufreq but even if cpufreq set to a usersapce with a fixed value I get rcpu_preempt detect stalls). About the ground my clue come from the fact I had static discharges when touching the enclosure for a long time and a comment I saw about ground <clipped message>
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <prahal> between secondary circuit and earth in an HiFi chain.

<flyback> uh yeah static is 1000's of volts
<flyback> it will *CANUCK*- chips
<flyback> granted most modern chips have anti static diodes on every pin but it's still best to avoid stressig them

<DC-IRC> [Discord] <dazz> has anyone ever used a Armbian image as a base for another OS, for example, OpenWRT? I'd like to try and my Orange Pi Zero 3 as a little router (just for fun) and while I know I can use standard Linux tools such as iptables and whatnot to accomplish something like that in vanilla Debian/Armbian, I wouldn't mind having the easiness of OpenWRT available

<DC-IRC> [Discord] <viraniac> I know some people that use armbian build system to compile kernel and u-boot and then use that on other OS like alpine.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <viraniac> If you wish to use Openwrt on Orange pi zero3, this is not the right place. There is a thread on openwrt forums for orange pi zero3. You should check that out
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <dazz> yeah I've been paying close attention to both the Armbian and OpenWRT forum threads about the Opizero3...
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <dazz> it's just that the Armbian development is very much ahead of OpenWRT's for this board, and would like to know if anyone had any experience putting together such an image
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <dazz> There once were some tutorials for the original Opizero on how to build OpenWRT using the "tooling" from Armbian like you mentioned, but I understand this isn't exactly the place to search for such info
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <viraniac> The reason why I said this is not the right place is due to the difference in the project goals. Armbian is a general purpose OS, while OpenWRT is quite specific in their use case
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <viraniac> The kernel in armbian contains a lot of modules that will just be not required for openwrt, making it look like its quite bloated.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <viraniac> If you use a openwrt specific source code, I won't be surprised if everything fits on the builtin spi itself
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <viraniac> But if you use the default Armbian kernel and stuff, that won't be possible
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <dazz> That would be pretty cool, storing the OS on the spi. Thanks for the info. I guess I'll try using Armbian and learn a bit more about Linux network/routing tools while I'm at it.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <dazz> I'll wait until someone more knowledgeable than me tries to build OpenWRT for this board. There actually is a unofficial OpenWRT image from Xunlong themselves, but I wouldn't even think about "semi-deploying" that thing on my network

<DC-IRC> [Discord] <prahal> flyback: thank you. I am not telling it is the cause. About static discharge I am not talking about static energy (this static sdischarge happens when I plug the box to my APC UPS, I do not believe the electric shock I get is related to me being charged of static electricity. I used the term static discharge because I don't know how to translate the french "chataîgne due à l' <clipped message>
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <prahal> électricité" in english.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <prahal> So my query is totaly unrelated to static electricity. It is because I have read that common ground of secondary circuits could be connect to the earth and that otehr electic appliance could interfere. Does it makes sense ? (from Tonymac32 meme it seems it is irrational, though I don't know if I explain what I have read correctly last time).
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <prahal> My second comment was implicitely asking if the fact I get smal but quite noticeable "electric shock" when I touch the metalic enclosure of my arm box could hint at such a ground to earth pollution (but I still do not know if earth interference from other appliance could pollute the ground of the secondary circuit on the board.
<flyback> yeah im not sure about that
<flyback> i'd tell you to join ##electronics but you are on discord and not libera chat

<DC-IRC> [Discord] <prahal> flyback: thanks, I am also on matrix which has a libera bridge
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <prahal> my idea was taht maybe the otehr appliance pollutoin to the erth could increase teh secondary circuit ground and thus the voltage of the cpu could get too low not because the power input decreased but because the ground increased (I am not that versed in elctronics though, but as far as I understand the difference between two density of charges, so if the lower density increase t <clipped message>
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <prahal> he voltage would decrease even if the input which is the higher density did not change ).
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <prahal> That would make sense out of the fact this board is unstable for some people but not others. I would conclude that the board is the same, but the other appliances attached to the earth differs. Though that remains hypothetical and reports of such issue are not to be found for computer (for HiFi from audiophiles only can I found such reports).
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <prahal> Also I have an Intel Skylake box which hang a lot (the GPU hang from the kernel message, but then somewhat the kernel crashes, maybe due to a reset code path bug in the kernel). If the electrical circuit was not good that would make sense out of both issues. Only my laptop which is on battery is stable (though its firmware has bugs or at least plays badly with the kernel 😕 Lenovo from 2014).
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <prahal> But the two other crashes be they on the mains of the UPS (which is Eaton nowaday but my rk3399 box was already constantly crashing in this flat with the previous APC UPS)
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <prahal> I meant "be they on the mains or the UPS"
